LOCATION INFORMATION:Getting there:There are two options – either travel north on State Highway 1 through Whangarei, past Hikurangi and on to Opua where you take the ferry to the Russell side of the Bay of Islands. Follow Aucks Road and take the right hand turnoff onto the Rawhiti and the Old Russell Road. Te Uenga in Parekura Bay is twenty minutes along this road, just past Waipiro Bay. But if you fancy a trip through the countryside and spectacular coastal views take the Oakura turn-off just past the BP station at Whakapara on State Highway 1, north of Hikurangi. Travel on this road, the Old Russell Road, for approximately 60 minutes, not taking any side roads, until you reach Parekura Bay, Te Uenga is just over the hill. Supplies:The closest shops once you are in the Bay of Islands are in Russell, twenty minutes drive to the west. Therefore the most convenient place to stock up on necessities is Whangarei, where there are both Woolworth and New World supermarkets, as you travel north. Climate:Te Uenga in Parekura Bay is usually several degrees warmer than forecasts because of its unique location. High hills surround the bay making for a sheltered sub-tropical microclimate.
